Cat, Curry, and Collages Blah, blah, blah. My room is STILL not done. And with Brother’s not-just-about-his-graduation party on Sunday, followed by our departure for Wisconsin/Seattle a week from tomorrow, it probably won’t be done until the end of July. Hmph. Regardless, there have been several things accomplished. My mother is almost done painting my window frames white, which means I can finally put he hardware on them, preventing critters from creeping into my bedroom. If you know me, you know this is a very good thing. I finished painting my closet doors, and although they later had to be removed in order to finish ripping up the carpet underneath (and still haven’t been put back on, DAD), I’m quite happy with them being red. Originally, I though it’d be neat to just put a bar up and hang some black fabric and it’d be all curtain-y and neat. But the doors are only a few years old so I’m fine with keeping them. (And yes, my closet is organized by color.) Read More

Spray-Paint, Staples, and Switches I really have nothing to do, so I’ll update the Tumblr world on things. First of all, my room is FINALLY coming along. My walls, which were originally dark purple on top and lime green on the bottom with a unique checkered print-type thing in between are sporting one coat of primer and three coats of red paint with primer in it—all that after hours of sanding (see my previous post). Should be sufficient, right? WRONG. In certain lighting, it’s still possible to see the checkered-ness. I can’t be too aggravated, though; it’s just a reminder of what was there before, right?! Anywho, after the walls were painted, a number of smaller projects began in order to get the room looking wonderful. Perhaps the most significant one was pulling up the lavender carpeting that has been there for …fifteen years? Something like that. This meant my mother and I taking a razor blade to one end and cutting it in runway-type strips. Beneath that was cushioning that had to be cut up. The cushioning had been fastened with a staple gun, so I pulled those up using a flathead screwdriver and needle-nose pliers. Here is an action shot of that business:  Read More

Campfire, Clouds, Cookies, and RED. That “RED” in the title caught you by surprise, right? Yeah; I thought so. Welcome back to my life: a life of very select showers, screwy sleeping schedules, and other stuff like that. This past weekend was Memorial Day weekend, meaning Gaspee Arts and Crafts. Basically, Rhode Island celebrates Gaspee Days over several weekends, commemorating the Rhode Island ship Hannah successfully taking prisoner the British occupants on the HMS Gaspee and then burning the ship. For details of this 1772 moment in Rhode Island history, read here. Every year for the past 46 years, we have a ton of events in the name of Gaspee (5k race, burning re-enactment, etc.), but the big ones are the Arts and Crafts Festival and the parade. Anywho, the festival was last weekend, so I spent some time with a bunch of friends and slept in a tent and had a lovely time of it. My friend hosts this every year, making it a wonderful tradition. Before that was my cousins’ annual barbeque. I took this nifty picture of a tiny section of the massive bonfire they always make. Read More

Blondies, Buses, and Brittany I HAVE MY FIRST PRODUCTION MEETING TOMORROW. But more on that in a bit. I’ve been cleaning my room thoroughly, getting rid of bags and bags of clothes and junk in prep for re-doing it. The carpet is going to be ripped up; the walls will be painted red. I’m going for a subtle theatre-theme (big surprise, right?!), but nothing over the top. My mother and I found some neat track lighting that is pretty neat. Each light looks like this. The accent colors will be black and, at Leah’s suggestion, white. Classic and a kind of grown up. Read More

A Plethora of Pictures Today ended up being quite lovely. I got up rather later than I had intended, after a strange apocalyptic dream involving a disaster presentation of my ten-minute play from Directing class and the professor, but featuring lemon peels coming out of my ankle and possibly something to do with motorcycles. I laid out on the lawn with Scuttle and started reading a book on theatre lights in preparation for my internship. Read More

Bertie Botts & Bloodthirsty Burritos I have come to the conclusion that I need to stop worrying about a stupid part-time job because no one is going to hire me for five weeks.  Instead, I will seek out random employment.  Ideally, said “random employment” will have to do with theatre activity.  For example, KB sent out an email asking if anyone could stage manage some event held by a professor from school, and I replied and said I was definitely interested.  However, there was a communication malfunction, and he said it was at the end of May, while it is really at the end of July.  This exacerbates things, but I’m still going for it.  They’re pulling together some money to make a stipend for whomever fills the position, and as long as it’s quite a bit more than my travel expenses, I’d love to do it.  It seems like something perfect for my skill level in stage management; plus, it’s something to add to the resume. Commencement, Classwork, and Catan Just like that, I’m suddenly a junior.  I guess it’s official, since I’ve handed in all my work.  This was no easy process, however, since I’m possibly the most successful procrastinator in the world. My semester’s slope into the world of “summer vacation” began on Thursday, May 12th.  This was the day of my Directing final, when three other directors and myself had the unique opportunity to present a series of four ten minute plays in various locations on campus.  The show was a great success, and a fun way to spend my last day on campus.
